Most everyone I know loves to pick up a good suspense novel now and then. They are fun to read, and the writer makes it hard to put the book down. I am going to give you a few tips for writing interesting suspense fiction books of your own. You are only limited to your imagination, and how creative you can make your story and characters.
As you start writing you book, you will have to have a story in mind already. It might be interesting to write the end of the book, then taking the story from there. This way you can plan each twist that will happen, making each twist progress in the danger factor. This keeps the characters role active, and the readers more interested. As you write keep your readers in mind.
All suspense books need the two main characters, the good guy, and the bad guy. The bad guy is that character everyone hates and the readers want to see him meet his demise. Then you have the good guy that always saves the day. He or she is always liked by the readers and for the most part good guys can do no wrong.
It is important to get perspective of both the main characters. It is necessary for the readers to understand what each main character is thinking, feeling and doing. Perhaps keeping the bad guys identity a secret until about the third quarter of the book is a good idea. Doing that makes a nice twist toward the end of the book when it is so unexpected, and keeps the readers attention all the way through the book.
To keep your readers interested it is imperative to develop several twists or secrets in the story of the book. Suspense writing is all about keeping your readers guessing and keeping them excited about the story line. Make the evil guy always plotting to hurt the good guy, but keep the plots that could likely happen. It is just the opposite when writing science fiction.
You have now established your two main characters in the book. The next step is to bring in more characters for your readers to follow. These characters will have certain roles to portray such as a lover for the good guy and the bad guy. You could also make the extra characters be friends to the two main characters. Be creative about their roles as you are writing the story.
What makes a good suspense book worth reading? The one word answer in short is secrets in the book. One example of that would be to name the bad guy near the end of the book. This is what readers want from suspense books. The more secrets and twists you write in your book, the more likely it will be a successful book.
I hope I haven given you a few tips that you will be able to use in your story writing. To understand your writing, read your story without thinking like a writer. If after you have read your story and have a few concerns, then change it until it reads well. What a writer wants above anything else is to have their readers be satisfied and excited about your story. That kind of story writing is what makes you a wonderful writer.
