The recent onset of the global economic crisis, coupled with the global food squeeze and the subsequent increase in food prices, has led many people to look for more cost-effective methods of providing for themselves. There are numerous ways in which the majority of citizens can save cash on provisions such as groceries. Coupons have been around since the early 20th century (introduced by the Coca-Cola Company and popularised by C.W. Post) and do pose a viable alternative to paying exorbitant prices in supermarkets and grocery stores; surprisingly, many stores and retail outlets offer more than a deceptive “buy one get one free” system, and the potential savings can border on 50% of a typical grocery trip’s expense.

It may surprise many that one of the best methods to obtain discount coupons is through free newspapers. Publications like the area-specific local papers are filled with coupons from local retailers, and offer many deals like discounted meals, hotel stays, and even car washes. The number of discounts available is nearly unlimited, but many people will discard it as rubbish. Local dealers, often struggling to break even, will offer charitable deals and you can reduce grocery bills by taking advantage of this; these dealers will most likely offer lower prices than supermarkets your large supermarket chains to gain that point of difference.

Similarly, online coupons are a great way to save money; many websites such as coupons.com and couponizer.com offer free coupons that can be printed and used in stores. The price of a printed sheet of paper weighed up against a guaranteed financial savings is in most cases a great bargain and one that most people again do not take into account. Even free samples sites like freestuff4free.com have a section on coupons gathered from many areas of life.

Another source of coupons that most people do not give a second thought to before disposing of it is supermarket receipts; after your next trip to the grocery store, turn the receipt over and you might be pleasantly surprised at the offers that are there! While these offers are not from the actual supermarkets themselves, reduced prices can be obtained on services like carpet cleaning and car washes. Savings of up to 50% are not uncommon on these coupons, and most are valid for a significant period of time.

Using coupons has long been the realm of prudent spenders, but it is by no means an unattractive habit; rather, it is an affordable alternative to the pricing of retail outlets, and allows struggling families to afford necessities such as food and clothes while reducing the prices for services that would be out of the reach of many in this climate of global economic insecurity. Many are unfortunately aware of the phenomenon, but for persons looking to save money without a reduction in their quality of life, coupons represent the way to go, as they are cheap, free, and most importantly, they work.

It is an old adage, but still true, that a company is only as good as the least of their workers. And unfortunately, poor and inexperienced workers, are one of the characteristics frequently found in moving companies located through Internet advertising. Moving is an art. Even the three week course given to employees in large companies doesn’t fully prepare them to move the variety of delicate and unusual items found in people’s homes. Here is a story taken from the website of a prominent anti scam moving site that shows up moving company employees at their worst.

” After arriving 4.5 hours late, Jason’s partner, Michael, suggested that for an additional $15 per hour they could get an additional person to the location to make the move “more efficient”. I declined to pay anymore money than initially quoted. Michael then refused to load my belongings for fear that his fees would not be paid due to poor service. He left my belongings in a 1/2 loaded elevator, climbed the back fence and left.”

While the story doesn’t provide details, you have to wonder about the additional worker they wanted to hire for $15.00 an hour. Stories of inexperienced pickup workers hired from labor pools, for example, abound in the moving industry. While the workers may be sincere, and enthusiastic about making some good pay, that doesn’t makeup for his lack of experience in handling fragile items, and packing trucks tightly so that items won”t slip around and break.

The moving help were not the only inexperienced workers. The account goes on to detail how inexperienced the driver was:

” The driver (a woman) who had accompanied Michael, was nearly in tears, apologized, said it was her first day on the job, that she had never been so embarrassed, that the day had consisted of such goings on at each location.”

So all in all, this rouge moving company showed up with a less than adequate truck, (not detailed), an inexperienced driver and an offer to hire a pickup worker.

A few economic facts, might serve to illustrate why the danger of inexperienced employees abounds in the moving profession. As noted by one guest on the anti-moving scam web site forum, moving truck drivers in Vancover get less pay than McDonald’s employees. The same owner who sent out the truck in the above story, also put up this ad in a local Craig’s list:

“I am tired of guys not showing up! got stood up again this morning! You must be reliable or do not waste my time and yours, you must be clean and have valid drivers license, no druggies and or alcoholics please! You must know how to load a truck….
work today, call m.:778-238-6777… I have clean trucks and expect you to be clean,
If you are reliable and clean I will put you on top of the list as I am looking for reliable people only, thank you. * Location: Vancouver…..cash”

Before you consider hiring a moving company that you found on Craig’s list or the Internet, and which offer’s you a moving cost estimate, consider the kind of people who may be driving the vehicle that contains all of your life’s possessions.

With the economy as challenging as it is, many people, understandably, want to save money on their move. In an effort to pinch pennies, people generally go to the Internet and hunt for moving companies that will give them a low moving cost estimate . If you decide to search for a mover this way, keep in mind that even while you plan to save money with his services, he will also be trying to make an extra buck off of you.

A recent article on relocation.com pointed out some of the lesser known tricks that moving companies are using to raise the price of the move. In this article, I will show you how you can protect yourself from their trickery, by using an honest packing company to help you pack and load.

While telephone moving brokers will put you at ease by giving you a “guaranteed” moving estimate, this ease will be shattered on moving day, when the unscrupulous moving company finds technicalities which allow them to void the agreement. The most common of these, as noted on relocation.com, is the finding that you are moving more, or different items then you described in the pre move agreement. What people don’t realize is that this almost always occurs, as no one can remember everything he is planning to move on the day of his relocation. A packing service can help you avoid this pitfall, because they will send a representative to your house, days or weeks before the move, and go through your house room by room categorizing all the items you are planning to move.

Moving companies will also pad the bill by several tricky packing maneuvers. They will refuse to insure your goods unless you allow them to repack everything, because only by opening and repacking each box can they determine the original condition of every item. Moving companies then charge for the repacking and charge an arm and a leg for the packing material. Added to this, many companies will “balloon pack.” That is, they will fill each box half full of packing paper. This increases the cubic footage of your load and will add to the bill.

With a packing service to do your packing, you will be insulated from the danger of these shenanigans. First off, items packed by a packing service are accepted for shipping by a moving company, no questions asked. With no need for repacking, there is no need for extra packing material. And packing companies make no extra money from loose packing.Quite the opposite, the reputation of a packing company is built on the practice of solid tight packing, which cuts down on the cubic footage of your load, and prevents breakage in route. Finally, a packing company will give you a list of all the items you are shipping, their cubic footage weight. This will protect you from being overcharged by unscrupulous moving companies, who would otherwise falsify your cubic footage, and falsify your weight load.

Next time you make a move, consider using a packing company to pack and load and unpack and unload your goods, on both sides of the move. Packing Service Inc. is the name to trust in moving services. They are committed to protecting their customers from moving scam . And will be happy to pack and load your goods on both end of your move.

Ever though about how nice it would be if you could have meaningful input into the pricing of goods you like to buy? Just think how much fun you would have at the store, if the night before you went shopping, you could write the price tag on every item. Just figure out how much money you have to spend, decide what items you want to buy, and voila, with your prices, the goods you want are in your ken.

If you do think like this, you’re not the only one. Even some business owners play up this dream a little. Have you ever seen the guarantee that “We’ll beat any price.” Or “If our price is not the best on the market, you get a refund!” Have you ever taken anyone up on one of these offers?

Now, here’s a new Internet price offer that literally descends from the realm of fantasy into reality. Quality video production company Winmax of California is challenging surfers on the website to “Name Your Price.” Just surf to their website:
http://www.winmaxvideo.com, click on the highly visible “Name Your Price,” button, and open up a form that will let you suggest what you consider to be a fair price for the production of your dream video. Winmax promises to respond within 24 hours.

Along with the price, Winmax wants some additional information that will help the negotiation process, and at the same time, help the customer clarify his exact goals. They want to know the most important priorities for their customers. Is it the budget, is it the quality of the video, and is the speed of production? Is the business owner able to provide media material for the video, such as photos, slide, printed material and video clips? This may be something of interest to a creative business owner. He can have fun participating in his video production, and save money at the same time. If a company can provide most of the essential media elements of the film, such as photos, video clips, print information, and slides, than Winmax will compile all this material into the final professional product. The owner will shave money off the final bill by avoiding the cost of an onsite video shoot.

Finally, the offer represents an ingenious innovation in commerce that incorporates the famed price bargaining seen in marketplaces in the Middle East. And even more, because some time customers actually have a better idea of the the value of a product or service than the business owner, and now, their input will help shape the prices. Yeah!

So whether you are shopping for a trade show video corporate video or another video product, you don’t’ need to let the price get in the way, you can visit http://www.winmaxvideo.com and click the “Name Your Price,” tab, and start bargaining!!!

From the operators of www.iBuyLessGas.com–spreading the word about the Ecomates Ethos Fuel Saver.

More than two-thirds of the total oil consumption of U.S. goes to transportation – predominantly in the form of gasoline. An ordinary American consumes 500 gallons of gas annually. And with the unpredictable cost of fuel and the growing fear for the environment, saving energy by becoming a better driver and keeping your car correctly maintained becomes a must. Ponder the following tips to step up fuel economy and therefore, save energy…

Appropriate Driving

Lighten up. Remove excessive gear from your car. Extra weight consumes fuel.

Prevent idling. Driving 0 miles per hour doesn’t mean that you don’t consume fuel. A car engine that is running consumes fuel whether it is moving or not. Do not waste fuel by idling to preheat your engine. Once you start your engine, drive.

Turn off your engine if you are stuck in traffic. This makes hybrid cars so fuel efficient. Hybrid cars automatically shut off their engines when at full stop, eliminating the fuel consumption caused by idling.

Park, turn off your engine and eat inside the restaurant instead of going to a drive thru.

If your vehicle has cruise control feature, use it. Cruise control helps you maintain a constant speed and save on gas.

Drive sensibly. Antagonistic driving, unexpected acceleration, speeding and hard braking lower your fuel efficiency by as much as 33% in the highway and 5% in the city.

Keep away from high speeds. Fuel efficiency drops when you drive more than 60 mph.

If you are driving a car with manual transmission, shift to the highest drivable gear. High gear at low speed requires less pressure on the gas pedal compared to low gear at high revolution.

Calculate your braking distance. Do not accelerate if you know that you have to slow down or go into full stop right away. Excessive breaking is the result of excessive acceleration. Avoid them both. Car air-conditioning system increases fuel consumption by as much as 15%. Turn it off whenever possible. Avoid using the roof rack. Instead, utilize the space of your trunk or the back of your car. Items on your rack produce drag and reduce fuel economy by as much as 5%. Maintain the manufacturer’s recommended tire pressure.

If you can afford the cost, switch to hybrid cars. They have higher fuel economy than regular gasoline-engine vehicles. Also, hybrid cars have no- or low-emission rating which helps reduce carbon dioxide emission. Electric cars and other vehicles that run on alternative energy are better choices if you want to save on fuel and help the environment.

Fuel efficiency is maximized if the car is light, aerodynamic and has a small engine. So when you are considering buying a new car, you can take into account these 3 elements, which can be found on small cars and not on the gas-guzzling SUVs.

Car Maintenance

Switch or wash your air filters regularly. Clogged filters prevents air flow which results in poor car performance and more fuel consumption.

Keep your wheels properly aligned.

Subject your car to regular tune up, change oil and car maintenance checks to avoid fuel economy problems caused by dragging brakes, transmission problems, low transmission fluids or worn spark plug.

Try carpooling, telecommuting or public transit to reduce fuel consumption and maintenance cost.

Use the right type of oil for your car.

Saving energy begins at home and extends on the road. Make these things a habit to save cash, help the environment and extend the service of your car.

Too many of us have spent our time shopping at our local stores without even thinking or examining how our time and productivity could be better spent. A typical Saturday morning arrives and we hop into our cars/minivans/trucks while firing up our engines (and several hundred horsepower of energy to boot) just to zoom down to the local Kohl’s or Barnes & Noble Book store just to make a purchase. We basically travel by going into an “autopilot” mode and arrive at the store by some sort of subconscious transfer service. Half the time we don’t even remember how we got there. The cost in gas alone for these shopping episodes is alarming and something to consider. Fuel is climbing again and is now in the mid $2.50 range per gallon. Keep also in mind the depreciation effects on our vehicle’s especially when starting and stopping frequently for these small jaunts to the various department stores. Does this approach still make sense for consumers in today’s globally starved economic climate? Is there a better more economical way to shop?

Let’s consider this now from the store owner’s perspective. The building that is housing the various products you purchase is a physical structure made of brick and mortar. The owner must pay for the building and all of its employees. Further more there are out the door expenses for insurance, heating/cooling, electricity, taxes, etc.. The owner must also deal with all the people coming into his store along with customer returns and damaged goods. Does this approach still make sense from the business owner’s standpoint? Wouldn’t the owner prefer a more profitable business model which would benefit him and the consumer?

Considering all the variables from both the consumer and owner viewpoints it is no surprise that the “Internet” has been the one common denominator or “game changer” which has reshaped business transactions forever. Keep in mind that while the internet has been around for a good period of time it is not going away…in fact it continues to expand here in 2009. In time, brick and mortar store fronts may become a “dinosaur of the past” especially with the all the forthcoming virtual store concepts. What does the business impact of the internet have specifically to do with the consumer?

It means that times have changed, are changing, and will continue to change…we can choose to live and conduct buying habits which are based on old information OR we can base our decisions in real time and current world conditions…thus a “paradigm shift” is needed in changing the way we conduct our purchases.

What do you mean by “paradigm shift” as it relates to this article?

By purchasing most of our products on line we can now get these goods shipped directly to our homes (in most cases for Free), we can get cash back of up to 25% of our purchases in the mail, we can apply online coupons to further enhance our savings, we can save on gas and reduce car depreciation from frequent store trips, we can cut back on pollution, we can gain more time to do other more productive things, we can feel good about having a better strategy for the future and being smarter!

That’s what I’m talking about!

There are masses of people presently looking to save a quantity of money in their day to day expenses. This doesn’t need to be since daunting as you should at firstly think. just take a peep because of this list of quick fixes and see how various you may perhaps put in place today.

Gym Memberships – do you have a gym membership? Is it at present eating into your bank balance each month with a further charge to your account? Are you in reality getting your money’s worth from the fees or even getting any use at all from the gym? Why not cancel the membership and try some more traditional exercise? Go for a long walk, or a run or even a bike ride? You would be able to go to the local swimming pool for a weekly dip for less than the cost of the membership.

Paid for TV – how loads of channels are you paying for and how many do you if truth be told watch? How lots of in reality put out programs that you are eager to watch? should you really miss the channels if you reduced the number you paid for, or even dropped all paid for channels and instead simply watched the free channels? Even going from the cheapest paid for package and downgrading to the basic free channels can save you hundreds each year. This should not seem a big benefit in the initially month, but the benefit soon adds up to a lot over a few months.

Watch where you shop – the local huge supermarket that once undercut all local corner shops would not if truth be told still be the cheapest to shop at. I have noticed that cheaper, and frequently better quality, produce is now obtainable at smaller shops. What’s more, by getting out to the corner store or a local farm shop for a few bits at a time, you are reducing the amount of over buying and impulse buying that you take part in and therefore, buying less produce that you would eventually just end up throwing away.

Watch when you buy – but there is a time to shop in supermarkets and this is often towards the ends of the day. Be on the glance out for reduced price items that the supermarket wants to sell before having to dispose of them. Fresh cooked bread, prepared meats and vegetables, diary produce and the likes may well all have short use by periods and may perhaps expire quite quickly. These might be on special offer, wonderful if you normally buy these sort of products anyway.

Look at Your Borrowing – Have you reviewed how much have you at this time got borrowed in your mortgage and what it’s costing you and with the recent fall down in mortgage interest rates is your mortgage serving you for the reason that best it can? Have a short word with a mortgage agent who possibly will realize your financial position and ask them to compare mortgage rates for you. Is the agreement you are on the best and what should it cost to shift to something cheaper? It might be cheaper to stay put if you have high penalty charges, but if there aren’t exit charges or they aren’t too enormous, then you should save yourself a neat figure by moving. When your mortgage advisor compare mortgage rates for you, they should also be able to warn you how much it will cost to transfer.

With gasoline prices reaching alarming levels, more and more people would want to know what are the things affecting and influencing the price increases. Gasoline prices may not be set in as a simple manner as just any other product. There are certain components that, when affected can help give rise to gasoline prices. Here are those components:

Crude Oil
Gasoline comes from crude oil. A bulk of the crude oil supply for the global market is located in the Middle East. This region accounts for about forty percent of the world’s supply of crude oil. And in this region has an established organization called OPEC (Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries) that sets the price of crude oil produced by their member countries. The OPEC also sets the rate of production at which each member countries should try to come up with periodically in order to set up a stable enough supply according to demand.

Refining
Price of crude oil is set on a per barrel basis. One barrel of crude oil contains 42 gallons which is then refined to become gasoline. Each barrel of crude oil then yields approximately 19.6 gallons of gasoline. Remaining yields include distillate fuel oil, residual fuel oil, jet fuel, and other products. The refining process may also affect the price of the end product.

The price of oil in the world market is based mainly on demand for it. When there is an increasing demand for gasoline in many parts of the world, particularly in the United States, crude oil prices tend to go up. The price of crude oil may also be affected by political happenings in some major areas of the world. Local conflicts especially in various oil producing countries which may have an effect in the world supply of crude oil may also have an effect on its price.

Distribution and Marketing
The distribution process that goes with providing the crude oil from suppliers to refineries that make it into gasoline down to the retailers who sell it to consumers can have a substantial effect on gasoline prices. By average, distribution accounts for about ten percent of the gasoline price. Distribution goes into a long process from crude oil to the end product, which makes it one of the more important components that affect gasoline prices.

The distribution process usually starts from an oil producing country shipping the crude oil to several refineries overseas. The refineries then transport the gasoline into a series of pipelines inland that lead to several of the major consumer areas. It is here that the gasoline may also be further blended or refined to match certain local regulations. The finished product may then be delivered to several retail outlets where the price is set according to certain factors such as supply, demand as well as competition.

Taxes
Gasoline prices may also be affected by taxes both local and countrywide. The difference in the taxes set for gasoline in different areas account also for other places having cheaper gasoline than in other areas. On average, taxes in general account for about ten percent of the price set for gasoline.
